FTC Forces Facebook of WhatsApp users Privacy Obligation
After the $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp, many users were worried that Facebook will share their information with 3rd parts (like US or NASA..), that's why the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) notify facebook of the obligation to save users privacy and tell them when their information will be shared.
In a letter to the two companies, Bureau Director Jessica Rich noted that WhatsApp has made clear privacy promises to consumers, and that both companies have told consumers that after any acquisition, WhatsApp will continue its current privacy practices.
“We want to make clear that, regardless of the acquisition, WhatsApp must continue to honor these promises to consumers. Further, if the acquisition is completed and WhatsApp fails to honor these promises, both companies could be in violation of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act and, potentially, the FTC’s order against Facebook,” the letter states.
So now you can chat with your friends using WhatsApp without worrying about your information and privacy and if this happen you can easily get your rights “both companies could be in violation” the FTC said in a letter. And by "Both Companies" the FTC mean Facebook and WhatsApp.
Also it seems that Facebook has no problems with saving WhatsApp users privacy: A Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement the company is “pleased the FTC has completed its review and cleared our acquisition of WhatsApp,” but declined to comment on the FTC’s privacy concerns.
