Facebook to Acquire Oculus VR for a total of approximately $2 billion
It seems that Facebook has many big plans for the future. After the acquisition of Facebook on Whatsapp with $19 billion, the company decides today to acquire the virtual reality technology company "Oculus VR" for a total of approximately $2 billion.
These 2$ billion include $400 million in cash and 23.1 million shares of Facebook common stock (valued at $1.6 billion based on the average closing price of the 20 trading days preceding March 21, 2014 of $69.35 per share). And according to the company, this is not the final price because "The agreement also provides for an additional $300 million earn-out in cash and stock based on the achievement of certain milestones".
Maybe you ask: What is Oculus VR ?
ok, I will tell you, do you never watch "Jimmy Neutron"? if yes take a look on this episode (start the video at 5m 47s)
Oculus did the same thing, it allows you to play video games in the virtual world using the Oculus Rift, a virtual headset mainly used for 3D games.
“Mobile is the platform of today, and now we’re also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow,” said Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. “Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate.”
“We are excited to work with Mark and the Facebook team to deliver the very best virtual reality platform in the world,” said Brendan Iribe, co-founder and CEO of Oculus VR. “We believe virtual reality will be heavily defined by social experiences that connect people in magical, new ways. It is a transformative and disruptive technology, that enables the world to experience the impossible, and it’s only just the beginning.”

Facebook VP: The only limit with Oculus is our imaginations
Now, maybe you ask "If Oculus VR is for gaming, in what facebook will use it?"
“The reason we’re very excited about it [Oculus], is the fact that gaming is a huge part of the Facebook business, and what it allows developers to do is to really get inside and create whole new worlds for people to enjoy gaming on,” explains Mendelsohn.
So the Oculus will pass the gaming limits to living the event, Personally I think it will be amazing if one day you will be able to be present at a football match from your home (using Oculus), or exploring other countries, walking and living in that place without leaving your house, Woow.
The technology can go more than that and especially if facebook use it, with more than 1 billion active user the company can pass all the limits, for example imagine if one day you will use Facebook in the virtual world, talking to friends, reading news or knowing new friends, sitting with them and see them Live. And all this without living your home.
“What we see in the medium to longer term is really how we can create a whole new immersive platform for the way in which we share and enjoy content,” she continues. “So just imagine you’re sitting ‘at’ a football match…but you’re not, you’re in your home and you’re enjoying the content through Facebook, through Oculus’s technology, where you can feel that you’re actually at the football game. Or you could even take it into the medical world – imagine you could have a conversation with a doctor? You could really feel as though you can share things in a much more personal and intimate way. Really, the only things that will limit us here is our imagination.”
